Civics Update for January 21-24

The new semester is here!

If you have any missing assignments that need to be turned in, you need to turn them in by the end of the day on Wednesday so I can have grades finalized.   There are still some students on the cusp of passing due to not having assignments turned in.

There will be no Preambles this week.  We will start them again next week as with Current Events.  The second half of the alphabet will start this semester with Current Events.

Here is the agenda for the week:

Tuesday:  Semester exams

Wednesday:

  • Topic 6 Vocabulary distributed.  Completion will be checked Friday.
  • Introduction to bureaucracy.  We will start Topic 6:  The Executive Department at work.  
  • We are just going to cover the first three sections of this topic as the last three sections deal with foreign policy.
  • Read pages 236 to 241 for Thursday


Thursday:

  • Current Events schedule and one copy of Current Events assignments will be distributed.
  • Section 6.1 notes on The Federal Bureaucracy
  • Read pages 242 to 250 for Friday


Friday:

  • Check for completion of the Topic 6 vocabulary assignment.
  • Section 6.2 notes on The EOP and the Executive Departments
  • Read pages 251 to 260 for Monday.  There will be a reading quiz and you will be quizzed on one of the following prompts on Monday:
    • What does GSA stand for and what are its functions?
    • What does the FDA stand for and what are its functions?
    • How does "To the victor belong the spoils of the enemy" apply to the patronage system?
    • How did a presidential assassination lead to the Pendleton Act?
    • What is the purpose of the Selective Service System?
