Civics Update for September 3-7

As we move into the first full month of school, we are going to look at the origins of the American government with its foundation in the Declaration of Independence, the failure of the Articles of Confederation, and the continued existence of our current government under the Constitution going back to 1787.

First, we must look at the reason why we have no school on Monday.  It is Labor Day and it has its roots in the Progressive movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s.   Please read through this short history of Labor Day from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Here is the agenda for the week:

Monday:

  • No School

Tuesday:
  • The second half of the alphabet will turn in Current Events
  • New Preamble sheet
