Civics Update for week of March 12-16

***All students will be turning in Current Events on Monday.  This will be grading period 5, Current Events #2.  The assignment will be turned in and not presented due to Magistrate Bolton speaking to the classes.  These will be due at the very beginning of class.

***If you still need your Sway graded, you need to see Mr. Zukowski during AA.

Monday:

  • Turn in Current Events
  • Magistrate Bolton will be speaking.
  • Read pages 303 to 306 for Tuesday.


Tuesday:

  • We will review the structure of the American Court System.
  • EQ 10-7:  How does the American Justice  System address both civil and criminal law.


Wednesday:

  • Review Criminal Justice Process
  • Complete EQ Notes 10-8:  What are the guaranteed rights of the accused?
  • Students read pages 310-313


Thursday:
  • EQ Notes 10-9:  What are guarantees of a fair trial and protections for those convicted of crimes?
  •  Students complete Bill of Rights Criminal Procedures documents

Friday:

  • Total Recall turned in.
  • Three Branches of Government Quiz.  Here is a Quizlet practice.  
  • Practice writing checks.

Monday:
  • Essential Question Quiz.  You will answer two questions.  Here are the possible questions:
    • 10-1:  What is the difference between civil liberties and civil rights?
    • 10-2:  What is selective incorporation?
    • 10-3:  What is the free exercise clause?
    • 10-4:  Why do public officials have fewer protections from defamation?  
    • 10-5:  Why are there less Fourth Amendment protections for students?
    • 10-6:  Through which amendments did the Supreme Court construct the idea of privacy?
    • 10-7:  What are three alternatives to civil trials?
    • 10-8:  What are Ex Post Facto laws?
    • 10-9: How does a bench trial differ from a jury trial?
