Civics Update for week of October 2-6

Here is an update from the counselors:
Reminder to All GHS Parents:
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held next week on October 5th from 4 - 6 pm. If you would like to come speak to one or all several of your student's teachers, please feel free to attend. Counselors will also be available! 
Parents of GHS Seniors: 
October 9th we will hold the FAFSA sign up night in the 1st-floor computer lab from 6 - 8 pm. If your student plans to attend college after graduation, we highly encourage you to attend this sign up night. If you believe your student will be scholarship eligible, it is mandatory that they fill out the FAFSA by March 1st along with the PROMISE application in order to even be considered eligible. Please come with your most recent tax information!

The first half of the alphabet will need to turn in Current Events on Monday  (Grading Period 2, CE #1).

Here is the schedule for the week:

Monday:

  • Turn in Current Events
  • Finish chapter 3 study guide (and the essay questions)
  • Introduce October PIPS


Tuesday:

  • Essential Question Quiz for Chapter 3.  Here are the possible questions:
    • EQ 3-1:  How do limited government and popular sovereignty link together? Use examples.
    • EQ 3-2:  How are checks and balances important to the government.  Use examples.
    • EQ 3-3:  What are two ways to propose a constitutional amendment and two ways to ratify such amendment?
    • EQ 3-4:  What are some criticisms of the Constitution?
  • We will read a newsletter called Upfront and discuss some topics from it.
  • Prepare chapter 3 packet to turn in on Wednesday.


Wednesday:

  • Turn in chapter 3 packet
  • Take chapter 3 test.
  • Complete chapter 4 Vocabulary.
  • Read pages 96-10 for Thursday.


Thursday:

  • Essential Question Notes 4-1:  What are the powers given to the state and national governments?


Friday:

  • Turn in Total Recall questions
  • Go to downstairs computer lab
  • There will be a PIPS quiz on Monday.
