CIivics Update for week of October 30 to November 3

*Current Events for the first half of the alphabet is due on Tuesday this week.  It will be assignment Grading Period 2, Current Events #3.

**The PowerPoints we worked on last week need to be finished by 11:59 p.m. on Monday evening.  If you have finished, let Mr. Zukowski know in class on Monday and he will start scoring them.  If you still need to work on them on Monday, the downstairs computer lab will be open before school Monday morning.

This week we will be moving into coverage of Congress.  This is the lawmaking branch of the national government, but they also do much more than this.  On Tuesday, we will look at how our Congressman works for us, his constituents.

Here is the schedule for the week:

Monday:  Representatives from BB&T will be here to continue what they started a couple of weeks ago.

Tuesday:  We will watch a video of Rep. McKinley participating in a committee and questioning witnesses.  We will also watch a Crash Course video introducing Congress.  We will also look at who are members of Congress.  Please read pages 122-126 for Wednesday.

Wednesday:  We will look at the make-up of Congress regarding the qualifications and components of Congress.  We will also complete a "double bubble" map about Congress.  Read pages 127 to 132 for Thursday.

Thursday:  We will start looking at the powers of Congress.  Remember Article I, Section 8?  We are going to spend most of the class on them!  There will also be a vocabulary quiz tomorrow on terms from chapter 1 through chapter 8.  Use this Quizlet site to help you out.  Read pages 133-136 for Friday.

Friday:  We will start class with Total Recall question and turn them in.  Then we will transition to the vocabulary quiz which will be 20 questions multiple choice.  Then we will continue powers of Congress with the implied powers of Congress.
