Civics Update for week of September 25-29

The end of the first grading period is Tuesday.  If you have any work that needs to turn in for the first grading period, turn it in by September 28 at 7:55 am.

On Monday, the second half of the alphabet will be turning in their Current Events assignments.


Monday:

  • Distribute chapter 3 vocabulary
  • Introduction of the idea of checks and balances
  • Essential Question Notes 3-1:  What are the principles of the government in the Constitution?  (pages 68-75)
  • Read pages 73-74 for Tuesday



Tuesday:

  • Completion of chapter 3 vocabulary will be checked
  • Distribute chapter 3 study guide
  • EQ Notes 3-2:  What are some examples of checks and balances?
  • Checks and balances grid worksheet


Wednesday:

  • Discussion of Judicial Review and Marbury v. Madison.
  • Read pages 78-83 for Thursday.


Thursday:

  • EQ Notes 3-3:  What is the amendment process?
  • Review of the Bill of Rights
  • Read pages 84-89 for Friday (reading quiz)



Friday:

  • Reading quiz for pages 84-89.  Here are the possible questions:
    • How do judicial interpretations apply the Constitution?
    • Why do people in Wyoming have more representation and therefore more influence than people in California?

  • EQ 3-4:  How has the Constitution been put into practice, applied, and interpreted in the modern society?
